Objective
The project aims to empower women with disabilities from Armenia’s nine border regions and displaced communities from Nagorno-Karabakh to become Peacebuilding Ambassadors who can actively participate in decision-making, promote inclusive community resilience, and monitor the implementation of the Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) agenda in Armenia. By providing accessible, tailored training and mentorship, the project will ensure women with different types of disabilities have the tools, confidence, and platforms to contribute meaningfully to peacebuilding and local governance.
By the end of the 6-month project, the following measurable objectives will be achieved:
- Increased awareness and understanding of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 among women with disabilities in the nine target border regions and displaced communities, through the distribution of accessible information materials in audio, and video formats with sign language and subtitles.
- Enhanced leadership and advocacy skills of at least 35 women with disabilities,enabling them to actively participate in community decision-making, contribute to լocal peacebuilding efforts, and monitor WPS agenda implementation.
- Development and implementation of at least nine community action initiative led by Peacebuilding Ambassadors that address inclusion, accessibility, and women’s participation in peacebuilding processes.
- Strengthened cooperation between local governments, civil society, and women with disabilities in the targeted communities, leading to more inclusive policies and practices related to WPS.
- Increased visibility of women with disabilities through accessible media outputs, promoting positive narratives and challenging harmful stereotypes in both local and national platforms.

This project is funded with UK International Development from the UK government and is implemented by the “Agate” Rights Defense Center for Women with Disabilities NGO within the framework of the “Building Resilience in the Eastern Neighbourhood” program, carried out by the Institute for War & Peace Reporting (IWPR).
