Workshop Details:

Dates: September 28-29
Location: Gyumri, Armenia

Who Should Attend:

  • Women and girls with disabilities from different regions of Armenia
  • Displaced women and girls with disabilities from Nagorno-Karabagh

Workshop Objectives:

This workshop aims to educate and empower women with disabilities by addressing critical issues related to disability and gender-based violence.

Key Sessions Include:

  • Recognizing Signs of Abuse: Learn how to identify various forms of abuse and understand the warning signs.
  • Understanding Your Rights: Gain knowledge about legal rights and protections against violence and discrimination.
  • Self-Defense Tips: Practical self-defense techniques and safety tips for women with disabilities.
  • Reporting Procedures: Step-by-step guidance on how to report incidents of violence and abuse.
  • Accessing Support Services: Information on available support services, including legal aid, counseling, and shelter.

After the workshop, a total of 25 women and girls with disabilities, coming from Yerevan and ten other regions across Armenia, will take on roles as peer supporters and mentors. Their primary objective is to assist and guide at least five women and girls with disabilities within their respective regions and communities. This support will encompass:

  1. Sharing Experiences: The participants will recount their own journeys, challenges, and successes, offering personal insights and relatable stories. This sharing of experiences aims to inspire and empower others by demonstrating that they are not alone in their struggles.
  2. Providing Peer Support: By forming a supportive network, these mentors will offer emotional and practical assistance. This could include listening to concerns, offering advice, and providing encouragement, fostering a sense of community and solidarity.
  3. Exchanging Information on Accessing Help: The mentors will disseminate crucial information about available resources and services, such as healthcare, education, employment opportunities, and legal rights. They will guide their peers on how to navigate these systems and access the help they need.
